| LBERT W. SMITH was born in East Boston, Massachusetts on May 12, 1909. He was the youngest of four other children, Clarence, Gladys, Maude and Harry. Most of his boyhood was in Boston. He attended Samuel Adams Elementary School and East Boston High. until he moved to Los Angeles in 1924. There, he attended Jefferson High, Manual Arts High, Metropolitan, Los Angeles Junior College and U.C.L.A. where he received his B.A. in History. He later did graduate work at U.C.L.A. receiving an M.A. in History.
After a brief stint teaching in the Civilian Conservation Corps, he got a job with the Los Angeles City School District at Belvedere Junior High School. He later taught at South Gate Junior High and then went on to Horace Mann Junior High as teacher and then as Registrar. Al died on October 13, 2003 at the age of 94.
