Gina Scaccia, born in 1962, began studying music at age 5. At age 9, in addition to studying flute, she taught herself guitar. In 1980 she was awarded a full 2-year music scholarship at the local community college, in Daytona Beach, Florida. Gina took a brief break from college life to raise her son, yet all the while stayed involved in music, and music composition.

After a 22 year absence from college life, in September of 2005, to honor her gift of music, Gina enrolled in Southern Oregon University’s music program. She is currently in her 4th year, studying music composition, film scoring, and working toward finishing her BA in Music. Her compositions paint a musical picture and for this particular piece she has incorporated her love for astronomy
